Sunday Spring Flowers and a Short Post

Look at the Flowers!

This week has gone by in a flash and I’ve found myself unprepared for today’s weekly blog post!  I had grand ideas of starting a sewing project and sharing it with you all!  But!  I ended up spring cleaning in the studio instead!  I literally had to dust off the sewing machine and thought that I might as well start from the bottom up!  Rearranging started to happen next.  Then, it turned into an all consuming project!  Throw some workdays in there to break it up and there you have it….no sewing project started.  What else?  Oh yeah!  Spring is exploding out there!  So there’s been time outs in between work and home to grab the camera and seek out the flowers!

Spring Bursts Forward and Easter Greetings!

Spring has Sprung!

It’s finally arrived!  Spring!  All of the goodness that one can expect from this time of year has come forth with a wave of warm air and blossoms ready to burst open!! Being filled with the joy of the season, I took to my new studio space to create some still life photographs inspired by the freshness in the air and the Easter holiday. Bouquets of flowers, farm fresh eggs, and collections of rustic tidbits provided plenty fodder for the imagination!

Nature Inspiration When Spring Arrives Late

Nature Walk

It always happens this time of year. The anticipation of spring consumes those of us who are in the Northeast.  Winter just doesn’t seem to want to let go and we are so ready for it to let go!  There comes a point, however, that spring can no longer be denied and that point is now!  Things still look pretty brown up here in the North Country, but if we look hard enough, nature provides plenty of inspiration!  I had the pleasure recently of taking a walk with a friend through the forest.  Little bits of nature provided joy and sparked the imagination!

The Excitement of Orchids

I missed last week’s blog post, because I was out and about on a most wonderful orchid adventure!  I met up with friends and went to the “Orchids of Thailand” show at the New York Botanical Gardens.  After getting off of the train & taking a brisk walk through the city, the botanical gardens were a much welcome sight.  As we approached the greenhouses, a sense of excitement settled in, because we knew that our eyes and our souls were in for a treat!!  On the exterior, these Greenhouses are beautiful on their own, but the real treat is the treasure tucked inside of their seemingly delicate glass panes.

Upon entering, you are greeted by a beautiful display of orchids balanced on the backs of large mossed elephants by a reflecting pool.  A large glass dome above streams in bright light that is filtered through the leaves of towering palm trees.  Urns filled with Phalaenopsis “Moth” orchids, in every imaginable color, decorate the entrances.  In addition to the moth orchids, several varieties of Brassia, Miltonia, Dendrobium, and Oncidium orchids are tucked away among the trees.  The warm and sweet smelling air immediately lifted our winter weary spirits!

The Changing of the Guard

“Suspended”

As summer hands over the reigns to fall, it is a good time to reflect on the season’s blessings.  Summer brought many changes in my life.  It handed me good times and bad.  It inspired me to reach for new goals.  It inspired me to get off my duff and start practicing yoga!  Something that I now look forward to daily!  Facing fall, I’m filled with both excitement and anxiety.  What kind of things will I accomplish in the coming season?  What lurks around the corner?
