In the Studio: Create Something Every Day

Pilot Pens are great for calligraphy practice.

Create Every Day

What I love about being an artist is that there’s always something new to learn, therefore there’s always something new to create!  When learning something new, sometimes we get frazzled.  It is important to remember that with practice, it will get better.  It certainly didn’t feel that way a few months back when I touched Adobe Illustrator for the first time!  I felt lost and wondered if it would ever get better!  Ahhh…silly!  I kept at it and although I still have TONS to learn, it’s not as big of a mystery as I once thought it was.  There’s a lot of advice out there and it comes in various mantras, but it all boils down to this in a nutshell:  If you want to be a successful creative, put in the time.  Do something everyday to reach for your goal.  Create every day.  Sounds simple, doesn’t it?  I thought so, until I really looked at the direction I was going in creatively.  I realized that although it *seemed* like I was creating and practicing frequently, I really wasn’t buckling down and putting in enough time.  Two weeks ago, I decided to just do something consistently every single day.

Create something with colored pencils
Colored pencils are quite the eye candy.
